Nusa Dua. Government focus on improving the productivity of oil palm plantations of the people, after issuing a moratorium on the expansion of last year until 2013.
"The productivity of smallholders are still under three tons of CPO per hectare, and some have two tons of CPO per hectare," said Minister of Agriculture (Agriculture Minister) Suswono, at the International Conference "on Oil Palm and Environment (ICOPE)", in Nusa Dua, Bali Wednesday (22/2).
He said there were several attempts to be taken by the government to help increase productivity include reforestation (replanting), maintenance, and fertilization and maintenance of good, so expect the productivity of oil fields could be the same as private people.
"We have a private good (productivity) can reach six tonnes of CPO / ha. If we can increase productivity up to four tonnes of CPO / ha alone, the national crude palm oil production could reach twice as Malaysia," said Suswono.
At present, he added, about half of the total oil palm plantations in Indonesia that reaches about eight million hectares, belongs to the people.
CEO of Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food, Franky O Wijaya, said about 43 percent of oil palm plantations managed by the people independently, with the productivity of land of about 1.5 tons of CPO per hectare.
According to the Minister of Agriculture, the low productivity of smallholders because the seeds are not clear, as well as estate management, maintenance and use of fertilizer is not good. "Currently the average productivity of the national oil palm plantation of about 3.6 tons of CPO per hectare, while Malaysia at 4.7 to 4.8 tons of CPO per hectare," he said. (ant)MB
