Supply Cocoa In Bandarlampung

LAMPUNG- The supply of cocoa beans dry in the city of Bandarlampung, Lampung Province, in the third week of November 2011 is still low due to the influence of weather is not yet stable.

A cocoa farmer, Bambang, a resident of Stone Putu, say, in Bandarlampung, Friday, erratic weather lately greatly affect the productivity of cocoa trees so the impact on supply.

"If it was normal I was able to
deposit 40 kg of dry cocoa beans to the collector on a weekly basis while the current conditions it is only about 50 percent or 20 pounds," he said.

Nevertheless, he adds, cocoa prices remained high Rp22.000 per kilogram since some weekend.

"The weather is erratic like this farmers drying the beans easier because the weather is very nice with relatively little rainfall," he said.

Farmers in the village of Key Bannerman, District of South Telukbetung, Salim, said supplies of cocoa to the collector current is decreasing quite rapidly because of water shortage cacao plants to cause the amount of fruit is reduced.

He said, usually in one harvest to get 30 pounds of dry cocoa but now only 20 pounds.

Meanwhile, the price of cocoa, he said, still high enough to survive Rp21.000 per kilogram in the collector area during recent weeks.

"The quality of cocoa farmers better because the drying process can be performed with maximum," he added.

One of the collectors in the produce warehouse district of West Telukbetung, Trisno, said the current price of cocoa from farmers survive while supplies begin to decline because of the impact of the dry season.

even so, he said, the current supply of higher quality cocoa in recent weeks because farmers can hang with the optimum.

He said the decline in supply will continue to take place during the dry season which usually lasts until the end of the year.

Based on statistical data plantation 2009-2011 Ministry of Agriculture Directorate General of Plantation, said the production of cocoa plantations in the city of Bandarlampung, in the year 2010 as many as 90 tons, while the Lampung Province for 2006 consists of smallholder production (PPR) 21 548 tonnes, the production of private plantations (PPS ) 4063 tonnes.

While for the year 2009 were 22,009 tons of PPR, 4.028 tons of PPS, in 2010 rose to 22,950 tons PPR and PPS 4109 tons, covering all districts / cities.
